Planning for Graduation
How hard you work, what courses and exams you take, and what you do outside your classes can make a difference in your life for years to come.
The earlier you plan for your future, the better.
Here are some tips:
- Do your homework — You know what courses you need to graduate. But is that everything you need to get the job you want?
- What courses do you want to take as electives?
- How do you see yourself using what you learn?
- Will extra courses or a double major put you on the path you want?
- Participate in extra-curricular activities — Consider courses that require time outside the classroom (like debate, band, and drama). Join clubs. Get involved in your community.
- Grades matter — Your job while you're in school is to be the best student you can be. Having trouble keeping up? Consider taking a lighter schedule or get some tutoring help. Most colleges and universities now offer help for students. Their goal is the same as yours: for you to finish your course of study and succeed in the world. They succeed when you succeed.
- Take necessary exams — If you're considering graduate or professional school, find out early what exams you need to take to get into the program you want to be in. If you have options, find out which ones fit your needs.
- Pursue internships or part-time jobs — There's nothing better than a degree unless you count a degree and experience.
